Here is a wonderful pair of Eastlake side chairs in excellent condition. Probably from the 1870s or 1880s, these have stable, solid frames, with a profusion of foliate ornamentation on the crown. Your friends won’t have anything like this. Or, maybe they will. Everybody had something like this once. Frames are made of either rosewood or mahogany, I believe.
Both are covered in rad, probably 1960s or 1970s gold velveteen fabric. Replace this without feeling guilty, or keep it – its in decent condition (a few pull and tears, but nothing particularly noticeable) and feel right for these chairs. These chairs are not a project. Take them home, and start using them.
Other than the fabric, both are in original condition, with their original casters on the front legs, original finish with a nice patina.
