This beautiful, delicate upholstered ladies vanity bench from the 1950’s or 60’s is in the French Provincial style and from the Los Angeles estate of Dorothy and Lloyd Bridges. It has a parcel-gilt frame with a charming medium olive green paint in its original condition. We have left it as found, with Mrs. Bridge’s choice of a floral quilted trapunto cotton chintz fabric having tracery tones of blue and pink on an ivory ground. What a charming relic of mid-century Hollywood, made exclusively for the iconic mother of Beau and Jeff Bridges.
Lloyd Bridges was born in 1913 and lived to be 85. His wife, Dorothy Dean Bridges was born in 1915 and she lived to be 93 years of age. We picked up this charming diminutive bench at an estate sale of the furnishings from their Holmby Hills home in 2009; the same house where they raised all their children. The bench measures 22″ × 16″ × 20″ high and is signed underneath with an original label saying that it was a custom-built piece. The old-fashioned telephone number on the label reads CRestview 5 (having no area code and the named Beverly Hills exchange prefix, CRestview ~ rather than being all numeric as it is today).
The makers label reads:
