Mid-Century Inuit Bird Puffin Sculpture with Signature
Based on some preliminary research via the artist search engine on katilvik.com, the marks on the bottom of the 14" high bird sculpture indicate that it may have been created by either Martha Ulliyak Milortok or Jeanie Angutigirk Papigatok. I’m afraid I don’t know enough about the Inuit language to determine from the sculpture the orientation of the mark.
The soapstone bird may be a Puffin, and I believe it is from Cape Dorsit in Nunavut Territory
I’m selling this Inuit Bird Sculpture on behalf of a friend. She and her husband received the 14" high sculpture as a gift in 1974.
