A pair of rare Bert England “Forward Trend” Lounge Chairs by Johnson Furniture!

Designed – Bert England

Manufactured – Johnson Furniture

USA Grand Rapids, MI – Circa 1950s

These chairs are the rare Lounge Arm Chair rather than the more common dining chairs!

Very striking design also reminiscent of Paul McCobb’s designs.

These chairs are made of beautifully grained mahogany. The floating backs are a woven cane framed in brass. The seats are an off white leather.

The chairs measure 28.25" H x 26.25" W x 23" D. Arm height 22.75" H. Seat height 16" H. Cushion 2.5" thick.

The chairs are in extremely good condition for their age. The cane backs are intact with no loss. The brass framework is in great condition with no staining or corrosion. The mahogany frames are in very good condition with only minor wear expected with age. One of the leather seats does have a very small crack in the the material. (see photos) The foam is in usable condition but could benefit from replacement. Also, the removable seat cushions could easily be reupholstered!
