A Karl Springer style flip top backgammon game table for sale!
Signed – Unknown Designer
circa 1970s
This game table features a leather top, antique brass banding and cream colored laminate surface. The leather top has a subtle texture and is a pale creamy gray color. The laminate is cream / ivory.
The table flips open by turning two brass knobs under the table. This unlocks the surface allowing the table top to be flipped to the backgammon board side. Within the backgammon side are two sliding clear acrylic sections which keep the game pieces in place. There are 15 white checkers , 15 black checkers, 2 white dice and 2 black dice. The doubling cube is missing.
The backgammon board is also made of laminate. The quadrants are black and white laminate.
The game table measures 30" H x 37.5" square. The legs are 4.75" square. The leather top / game board is 27.75" square. The brass banding measures 0.5" square.
The game table is signed with a brass plate near the bottom of one leg. I cannot make out the signature.
Overall the game table is in good condition for its age. There are, however, 6 stress fractures in the laminate at the joint of the leg (see photos). These fractures measure approximately 2" – 4". The laminate is not loose at this area and these fractures do not compromise the structural integrity of the table. The table is structurally sound. I don’t feel that these detract from the overall look.
The brass does have patina and age. There is one small ding to the brass banding along the surface of the table.
The leather is in very good condition with minimal wear.
