Photographs do not capture how stunning this large, sleek desk is in person. It is a truly remarkable piece, one that demands you make it the showpiece of the entire room. It came into existence circa 1940, made from hard maple, with walnut inlays, and built to be as solid as it is clean. Equally beautiful in back as in front, this is a desk that was always meant to own a room, not be pushed into a corner. In order to restore it to its full potential, I completely stripped and sanded the desk from top to bottom. I then had it professionally lacquered in a warm, high-gloss white, with a shine that must be seen to be believed. I restored the front and back inlay, as well as the front drawer, to the stand-out role it was always meant to have. It was a painstaking and laborious process, but when you see a gorgeous piece of mid-century modern furniture like this come back to life, it makes it worth it.
