Copyright 1927!! Websters New International Dictionary with Reference History – India Paper Edition – Published by G & C Merriam Company.
This beautiful leather bound dictionary is certainly the “Pièce de résistance” in the world of dictionaries! Not only is the texture and feel of the paper a delight, but the pictorial aspect is incredible. Each picture plate is protected by archival tissue. All pages are intact, with the exception of the title page which is slightly torn at the bottom. Otherwise it is in remarkable condition and lacks markings. The upper and lower edges of the outside binding shows wear and slight tears. Overall, for the age of the dictionary, it is in very good condition. Sections included are: Population in the U.S. in 1920; A Pronouncing Gazetteer or Geographical Dictionary of the World; 12,000 names of noteworthy persons of the world, birth, death and occupation; Arbitrary Signs of Writing and Printing; Pictorial Illustrations (which look like fine etchings!); History of the World from the Earliest Time to the Present (1920’s); Maps, tables, charts and “exhaustive index”.
I have many more pictures of the contents. If you wish to see them, please send a request and I will gladly forward them. Shipping will be within the U.S. only and by Priority Mail, large box. If you are local, pick-up can be arranged.
